The Emporia-Lyon County Joint Board of Zoning Appeals approved two requests at its meeting Tuesday night.
The board approved a request from Ron’s Sign Company to allow for additional signage at the former Golden Corral restaurant at 2830 West 18th. City Zoning Administrator Joe Foster says Panda Express is considering a move to that location, although nothing has been finalized, and there is a possibility of other businesses filling that space at some point in time but the number of potential businesses has not been determined. The request also included adding 10 feet to the existing 60-foot pole sign.
The building has largely been used as storage since Golden Corral left in 2013.
The board also approved Perfecto Puente’s variance request from lot square footage requirements at 1128 and 1130 Lakeview. Both lots are in R-1 Low-Density Residential zoning. Foster says the current lot sizes do not conform to existing regulations. The lot split will result in lots slightly smaller than current regulations, although they are in line with other nearby properties.
