USD 386 schools were under a brief lock down following the shooting incident which led to one person being transported by helicopter in Madison Thursday afternoon.
The lock down occurred at approximately 12:30 pm as a helicopter utilized school grounds for landing in order to transport an unknown victim who was shot in the head with a pellet gun off school grounds. While the incident did not occur on school property the district says in a press release, “…we felt placing schools in lock down was the best precaution until the situation had been resolved.”
The release goes on to say, “the safety and security of our staff and students is our foremost obligation and at no time did we fear that they were in jeopardy.” The destination of the victim, and their condition are currently unknown.
The incident which led to the lock down occurred around noon Thursday following what the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office describes in a press release as a “neighbor dispute” at 417 South 3rd Street in Madison. Deputies responded to a report of an individual being shot in the head with a pellet gun and were given information from the victim which has led to a search for 54-year-old Terry Lynn Bogart.
According to the sheriff’s office, Bogart is believed to have fled the scene in a white 2002 Chevrolet Tracker with the Kansas License Plate numbe 890HXN. Bogart is a white male, 5 feet 4 inches tall with gray hair and blue eyes.

Thursday 2:30 pm: Greenwood County Deputies searching for suspect following incident in Madison Thursday
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office is in search of a suspect who fled the scene of a dispute in Madison Thursday.
According to a press release from Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels, deputies responded to a report of an individual having been shot in the head with a pellet gun at 417 South 3rd Street in Madison around noon Thursday. Upon arriving, deputies were informed of an ongoing neighbor dispute.
Details on the victim including their name and condition are not currently available at this time.
The victim did manage to give authorities information which has led to a search for 54-year-old Terry Lynn Bogart. According to the release, Bogart is believed to have fled the scene in a white 2002 Chevrolet Tracker with the Kansas License Plate number 890HXN.
Bogart is a white male, 5 feet 4 inches tall with gray hair and blue eyes. He is not believed to be armed at this time.
