Riverside School will help folks get a jump on their Easter weekend Saturday.
Riverside is the host site for the sixth annual Bunny Hop 5K. Principal Jared Giffin says he was approached about the event by the National Education Association’s Emporia chapter shortly after he became principal. Giffin says it’s a solid partnership between the school, Emporia NEA and the Read to Your Bunny program.
Proceeds benefit Riverside’s Reading is Fun program and Read to Your Bunny, which has delivered the Rosemary Wells book “Read to Your Bunny” to over 5,400 babies delivered at Newman Regional Health. Read to Your Bunny spokesperson Janice Romeiser says literacy-based activities like this are invigorating because they draw attention to other literacy projects.
Saturday’s race begins at 8 am, with registration online at www.active.com or at the school. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for youths ages 5-11. There will also be a costume contest at 7:40 am.
