The Emporia State baseball team was unable to complete the sweep of Washburn Saturday losing to the Ichabods 7-3.
Washburn did all their scoring in the first 3 innings. They scored 3 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings and added a single run in the 3rd inning. Emporia State scored a run in the 2nd inning on a home run by Lou Penner. They added a run in the 6th and Brian Grove hit a home run in the 8th. Coach Seth Wheeler said it was a lot of little things.
Emporia State does win the series 2 games to 1. They are now 24-16 for the season and 17-10 in MIAA play and tied for 3rd place with Central Oklahoma. The Hornets are scheduled to play Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday in Enid, Oklahoma.
