The Emporia State baseball team out scored Washburn 4-1 Friday night to win game 2 of their 3 game series.
Lou Penner hit a solo home run in the 4th inning to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. Washburn tied the game in the bottom of the 4th.
Emporia State retook the lead for good with 3 runs in the 7th. Copper Minnick drove in a run with a single. Tyrus Barclay drove in 2 runs with a single.
Tanner Cairns was the winning pitcher going 8 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits with 9 strikeouts. Drew Scrimsher earned his 5th save with a 1-2-3 9th.
Emporia State goes for the sweep Satuarday afternoon with first pitch at 1pm in Topeka.
