The Flint Hills Community Health Center will be the location for Operation Prescription Drug Take Back on Saturday.
Take Back is organized locally by the Emporia Police Department and Drug Enforcement Agency. The event is a community service to help properly dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications in the home. People can bring any medications, except syringes and liquids, for disposal. Prescriptions and over-the-counter meds are accepted.
Leaving pills unchecked can lead to pills being stolen and abused by others, but Emporia Police Detective Dominick Vortherms says the conventional disposal method — flushing down the toilet — is harmful to the environment.
Operation Prescription Take Back will take place at the Flint Hills Health Center from 10 am to 2 pm and is free of charge. All drugs collected will be incinerated by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
