Honor Flight No. 6 is now underway for USD 252 Southern Lyon County.
The contingent of 25 veterans includes Linda Russell, who served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1980-1994, including time in the First Gulf War. She wasn’t able to make the trip last year, so she’s glad to be on this tour.
Twenty-two students from Hartford and Olpe high schools are serving as guardians for the veterans.
The district now has two trips per year to Washington, D.C., to let veterans and high school students see the sights around our nation’s capital during a two-day trip. Superintendent Mike Argabright says the group will see the World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Lincoln, Navy and Air Force memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima memorial Monday. Tuesday’s schedule includes the White House, Smithsonian Museum, Botanical Gardens and Capitol.
