Glass Blown Open Week got off to a rousing start with the annual GBO Beer Fest on Monday.
The 10 block of West Seventh was full with over 30 craft beer vendors from across Kansas, several food trucks and hundreds of people. Organizer and Radius brewmaster Jeremy Johns says “bigger and better is always the goal,” and that was the case Monday night.
Johns says Beer Fest is now on the Kansas craft brewery calendar in several ways, from more vendors wanting to be involved to vendors creating special beers just for the week.
Check-in formally starts at 9 am at the Granada Theatre. Longtime tourney organizer and Dynamic Discs owner Jeremy Rusco says numerous local and area courses will be used, whether for official or related activities.
Rusco says over 1,600 players from around the world will officially tee off Wednesday, meaning close to 2,500 people — or 10 percent of Emporia’s current population — will be in town strictly for the event this week.
KVOE News and KVOE Sports will have coverage of GBO Week all week long. For the full event schedule, go online to www.glassblownopen.com.
