A pickup was destroyed by fire Friday morning.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Rich Gould says the incident developed shortly after 9 am at the intersection of East South Avenue and East Street. The currently-unnamed driver was hauling a small trailer of brush to the landfill when he heard a pop in the engine compartment. Shortly afterward, he saw fire and smoke.
Gould says the fire was kept to the engine compartment, but the truck was a total loss. There were no injuries.
Gould says vehicle fires can get hot quickly and smoke can be toxic, so it’s important to call 911 when these kinds of fires develop.
