Shortly after a search for a missing Emporia man was announced, the subject of the search was found apparently safe and unharmed.
Darrell Jones apparently went missing after his wife saw him asleep Saturday night. Police Lt. Kevin Risley says an alert driver saw a truck matching the description offered by authorities and followed it to Road 220, about four miles north of town.
The search was announced just before 10 am. Jones was found less than 30 minutes later.
Jones, 79, is a longtime member of the Flint Hills Optimist Club — associated with the club’s annual Easter egg hunt for years — and is a one-time owner of Jones Wallpapering.

Emporia Police are looking for a well-known community member who apparently went missing this weekend.
Darrell Jones, a longtime member of the Flint Hills Optimist Club, left his home either Saturday night or Sunday morning. Police Lt. Kevin Risley says Jones’ wife saw him asleep Saturday evening, but when she woke up around 7 am Sunday, both Jones and his truck were gone.
Jones is a white male. He’s 79 years old and is 5-foot-11 with white hair and a white beard. He may be suffering from dementia. His truck is a 2001 Chevy S-10 that’s tan or silver in color and may have an extended cab. The license tag is Kansas 047 JGJ.
