Residents interested in learning more about the Emporia School District’s facility needs assessment and related bond to pay for improvements are encouraged to attend one of two meetings Tuesday on those topics.
The USD 253 board has scheduled two information meetings, one at noon and one at 6:30 pm. Both are at Mary Herbert. The board and district administrators have been working for nearly nine months to set a list of priority projects to upgrade or enhance district school buildings and other facilities.
At the board’s regular meeting last week, board members tentatively finalized a $78 million bond amount to pay for those improvements. The board will vote May 8 on whether to put this package on the ballot for a vote. If approved by the board and later by voters, perhaps as soon as this fall, the bond would increase the local levy by three mills and would be repaid over the next 28 years.
