The investigation continues into a suspicious grass fire that developed Sunday night between Emporia and Neosho Rapids.
Fire was noticed shortly before 9 pm just east of Chicago Mound Cemetery, eventually charring over 500 acres of wetland along Road 130 between Roads T and V before firefighters from Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Emporia and Olpe got the blaze under control.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Craig Andrews has said several issues made the fire suspicious: nobody was around, there was no evidence immediately available at the scene and the landowner told authorities he did not want that land burned.
No suspect information has been announced. If you have information, call the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 343-4200.
