Patrons of USD 253 had a chance to have their questions answered Tuesday as the Board of Education gets set to vote on a $78 million bond resolution next week.
Two informational meetings took place at noon and 6:30 pm Tuesday to help voters better understand the ongoing facility needs assessment and the planned improvements to each district school building. Discussions regarding the assessment have been ongoing for nearly the past nine months with all information being posted to the district’s website.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations Rob Scheib explains with the information readily available, why the district felt the need to provide another informational opportunity.
One patron in attendance was Shane Shivley who says he saw some pros and cons with the proposed renovations.
The sessions included an in-depth look at the assessment by HTK Architects and an overview of recent discussions between HTK and the district. Small group sessions also took place to give individuals an up-close look at each building and the proposed improvements.
The board will vote on the bond measure during their May 8th meeting. If approved by board members and later by voters, the bond would increase the local levy by three mills and would be repaid over the next 28 years.
