Free Landfill Days are closing down this weekend at the Lyon-Chase County Transfer Station.
As was the case last year, residents are allowed one free trip to the landfill instead of the longstanding practice of two trips. There is also a maximum of 1,000 pounds that can be dropped off free of charge, after which loads will be charged at normal city rates — 24.2 cents per 10 pounds for regular trash and 13.1 cents per 10 pounds for construction or demolition debris. Disposal of tires and appliances containing refrigerants will be charged at normal city rates.
There are also vehicle restrictions this year, with passenger cars, light trucks and trailers allowed. Commercial and industrial businesses are not eligible for Free Landfill Days.
Residents need to bring their April 2019 electric bill to take part. Hours are 8 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday and 1-5 pm Sunday.
