A water rescue in Chase County involving the Emporia Fire Department has connections to a missing juvenile case from Saturday.
According to Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker, the Sheriff’s Department received a report of a missing juvenile around 11 pm Saturday evening. Deputies were unable to locate the juvenile Saturday, however, shortly before 5 am Sunday, deputies received a 911 call for a girl in the water at the Kansas Highway 177 bridge between Strong City and Cottonwood Falls.
Dorneker tells KVOE News emergency crews responded at approximately 4:57 am and later requested assistance from the Emporia Fire Department. Responders were able to get a boat in the water and move upstream to retrieve the juvenile.
Dorneker confirms the individual in the water was the same juvenile reported missing Saturday evening.
She was then taken to Newman Regional Health for observation afterward, her name and condition have not been released. Details on how the juvenile came to be in the water and for how long are currently pending.

7 am Sunday: Details pending after Emporia Fire Department aids water rescue in Chase County.
The Emporia Fire Department was called out to assist with a water rescue in Chase County Saturday morning.
Details are scarce, however, the call came down for a water rescue just after 5 am Saturday morning. Firefighters were on scene assisting the Chase County Sheriff’s Department for roughly two hours.
According to the fire department, one individual was rescued from the water. Word on how the individual came to be in the water and their condition are currently pending.
