An investigation continues into how a missing juvenile ended up on a log in the Cottonwood River in Chase County over the weekend.
Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker says a juvenile female was reported missing late Saturday night and was discovered near the Kansas Highway 177 bridge between Cottonwood Falls and Strong City shortly before 5 am Sunday. The girl was found on a log and had been holding onto a concrete pillar “for a few hours” before she was found.
Chase County rescue personnel and the Emporia Fire water rescue team got the girl to safety. Dorneker says she was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. She was later released to her mother.
Further details are pending.
