The Emporia High tennis doubles team of Cameron Kienholz and Taylor Moorman finished in 5th place at the 5A State tennis tournament. The duo won all 3 matches they played on Saturday.
They defeated a doubles team from Andover-Cole Shanks and Alex jones 9-2. They then defeated Trey Niesen and Joe Donald from St. James Academy 9-6. In the 5th place match they defeated Garrison Wright and Grayson Wright of Maize South 9-8(7-4).
Friday the pair won their first match 6-2,6-3 over Ted Shi and Chase Bloyd of Blue Valley Southwest. Their only loss was to Reed McHenry and Max Shaffer of Salina Central 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. McHenry and Shaffer finished in 2nd place.
Kienholz and Moorman were 4 and 1 at state and finished the season with a 32-9 record. As a team Emporia High finished tied for 10th place. Salina Central won the 5A team championship.
