Neosho Rapids citizens dealt with a power outage for much of Mother’s Day.
The outage developed shortly after noon and lasted for close to five hours before it was fixed. Westar Energy says a combination of a transformer malfunction and broken cross arm led to the outage, although it’s currently unclear how both aspects of the outage developed.
The outage affected about 35 residents.
2:30 pm Sunday: Neosho Rapids power outage may last until evening
Power remains offline for about a quarter of Neosho Rapids, and affected parts of town may remain without power through the afternoon.
Power was reported offline shortly after 12 pm. Westar Energy’s online outage map indicates the outage affects an area from Fourth south about a mile out of town and from Mulberry west about a mile out of town.
The outage affects about 35 customers, or better than 10 percent of the town’s population of around 260 residents. A combination of a transformer malfunction and broken cross arm caused the outage, according to Westar. It could be early evening before power is restored.

Close to 40 Westar Energy customers lost power shortly after noon. Westar has not listed a cause.
Westar currently estimates power restoration shortly before 2 pm.
