The Memorial Day weekend is approaching, meaning Emporia’s outdoor water facilities are getting ready to open.
The city will have a grand opening ceremony shortly before noon May 22 for its brand-new splash pad at Peter Pan Park. The nearly 3,600-square foot facility was built last year, with landscaping and other details finishing this spring.
Operating hours will be Mondays from 12-8 pm and Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 8 pm.
The splash pad was funded by the WS and EC Jones Testamentary Trust, City of Emporia Special Park Fund and Kahola Lake Fund held at the Emporia Community Foundation.
Meanwhile, the Jones Aquatic Center will have its opening weekend activities starting May 25. The center’s hours will be 12-6 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 12-8 pm Fridays through Sundays. Twilight swims hours are 5-8 pm Fridays through Sundays.
