The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is planning a stop in Emporia next week to observe flood damage.
Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell says KDEM staffers will visit Lyon County on Monday. The visit will help state officials get a better sense of the local damage, which includes county roads, the city of Emporia’s sanitary sewer network and the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Lyon County has already estimated the total damage at $750,000, well above the county’s threshold of around $120,000 to start receiving federal reimbursements after nearly two straight weeks of flooding. The state, however, still has to meet a threshold of around $4.1 million before counties can get aid.
Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and Osage counties are part of a 21-county state disaster declaration at this time.
