Additional flash flood warnings have been issued with road closures now beginning to follow as rainfall continues across the KVOE listening area.
Flash flood warnings have been issued for Coffey, Chase and Greenwood counties until midnight Monday. Ssouthern Lyon County is in a separate waring until 3 am Tuesday.
Separately, flood warnings are in effect for the Cottonwood River at Emporia, Plymouth and Cottonwood Falls, the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids and the Marais des Cygnes near .
These warnings follow an earlier warning issued today for the Marais Des Cygnes above Reading from Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon. Flash flood watches continue for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee Counties until 7 pm Tuesday.
*The Cottonwood at Emporia is at 12.6 feet but should go above its flood stage of 20 feet before noon Tuesday and crest at 25.2 feet shortly after noon Wednesday — just short of where the north side of Kansas Highway 99 south of Emporia begins to flood.
*The Cottonwood near Plymouth is sitting currently at 16.36 feet well below flood stage of 32 feet. Current projections show the river could crest at 36.6 feet by early Wednesday morning. At Cottonwood Falls, the river is at 4.5 feet. It should climb past the 9-foot food stage before noon Tuesday, crest at 12.1 feet early Wednesday afternoon and go below flood stage Friday morning.
*Neosho River at Neosho Rapids is currently sitting at 20.6 feet. The river could tentatively crest at 30.1 feet by Wednesday evening. This would be the third highest all-time for the river if reaches that stage.
*Current models place the Marais Des Cygnes river at 4.25 feet, however, it is expected to rise rapidly by Tuesday possibly rising past the 19-foot flood stage by Tuesday afternoon at the earliest.

5 pm Monday: Heavy rain fall leads to flood warnings across KVOE listening area
A slew of flood warnings are impacting the KVOE listening area after rainfall began earlier Monday afternoon.
The national weather service has issued flash flood warnings for Greenwood and Chase Counties until midnight Monday. Separately flood warnings are in effect for Greenwood County, the Cottonwood River at Cottonwood Falls and the Cottonwood at Plymouth until Friday evening.
These warnings follow an earlier warning issued today for the Marais Des Cygnes above Reading from Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon. Flash flood watches continue for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee Counties until 7 pm Tuesday.
TV-13 Meteorologist Jeremy Goodwin says the recent rainfall today may be just the tip of the iceberg with more rain expected later in the evening into Tuesday morning.

As the evening goes on, chances of severe weather begin to come into the forefront. The main concerns being high winds and hail, although possible tornadic activity cannot be ruled out.
The heavy rainfall and potential severe weather come as cleanup continues from a round of thunderstorms this weekend which brought straight-line winds as high as 86 mph, the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane or EF1 tornado strength, in Emporia. Over 4,000 outages were reported areawide just in the Westar Energy system along with close to 80 outages for Lyon-Coffey Electric.
Several power lines, numerous tree limbs, and some fully grown trees were reported as downed during the activity Saturday. Most of the city’s blockages have now been cleared.

Another week of unsettled weather awaits for the KVOE listening area.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says a heavy rain risk develops Monday afternoon, while a severe weather risk comes into the picture Monday night and early Tuesday.
Hail and high winds are the main concerns overnight.
Two to four inches of rain are also possible areawide by early Tuesday. Flash flood watches cover the KVOE listening area from Monday afternoon through much of Tuesday.
