Our third round of flooding this month is now underway across much of the KVOE listening area.
Significant flooding is underway yet again, meaning long lists of flooded roads.
Late Tuesday night, Kansas Highway 99 closed south of Emporia to Road 130. The Kansas Turnpike floodgates opened up at mile marker 122.5 to help alleviate the traffic flow.
North of Emporia, K-99 reopened to traffic from Emporia’s north city limits to Kansas Highway 170 and Americus Road has remained open throughout this current flooding episode. Burlingame Road, closed for most of Tuesday due to flooding at Road 190, now has one lane of traffic open. Other closures:

Areawide, Kansas Highway 177 is closed between Cottonwood Falls and Strong City. Numerous county roads are closed in Chase and Greenwood counties. Morris County has Dunlap Road closed until further notice. And Osage County has K-68 and 268 going into Quenemo closed as well as K-31 at 325th near Melvern. Full list:

Meanwhile, nearly every area river gauge is in flood at this time.
The Cottonwood is in flood from Emporia west to Cottonwood Falls.
*At Emporia, the river is at 25.1, above flood stage of 20. It should rise to 25.2 feet by Thursday morning and go below flood Saturday night. A flood warning is posted until Sunday evening.
*At Plymouth, the river is at 33.72 feet, above flood stage of 32 feet. The river could climb to 35.6 feet Thursday morning and go below flood stage Friday night. A flood warning goes until Saturday morning.
*At Cottonwood Falls, the river is at 11.7 feet, above flood stage of 9 feet. The river should crest at 13.4 feet Wednesday afternoon. A flood warning is up until Saturday morning.
The Neosho is in flood from Americus southeast to LeRoy.
*At Americus, the river is at 26.47 feet. Flood stage is 26 feet. The river should climb to 26.4 feet Wednesday and fall below flood stage before noon. A warning continues to Wednesday night.
*At Emporia, the river is at 23.04 feet, above flood stage of 19. The river should climb to 23.4 feet Wednesday morning and go below flood stage Thursday morning. The current warning goes until Thursday afternoon.
*At Neosho Rapids, the river is at 25.48, above flood stage of 22 feet. The river could get to 29.5 feet early Thursday and go below flood stage Sunday morning. The warning goes until Sunday evening.
*At Burlington, the river is at 27.25 feet. Flood stage is 27. The river could climb to 31.6 feet Thursday morning. The flood warning goes until further notice.
*At LeRoy, the river is at 28.2 feet, above flood stage of 23 and above the point where floodwaters cross railroad tracks near the town. The river could climb to 28.4 feet before noon, and additional rises could happen later. The river is in a flood warning until further notice.
This third round of flooding for the month comes after up to 2 inches of rain Saturday and anywhere from 3-8 inches of rain areawide from noon Monday through midday Tuesday. More rainfall is in the picture for the next several days. Flood warnings continue until 11 am for Chase and Greenwood counties. A flash flood watch affects Coffey County through Thursday morning and Greenwood County from 7 pm Wednesday through 10 am Thursday.
Meanwhile, severe weather is again possible across the area Wednesday. Hail, high wind and isolated tornadoes are possible by late afternoon.
