Weather has forced the postponement of most of day 1 at the State High School Track and Field Meet Friday.
Only 20 events were completed on day 1. The day began with a 3 hour delay. Competition was halted due to lighting just before 1pm and never resumed.
9 area athletes did earn medals. Macy Smith of Olpe finished in 4th place in the 3200 meter run. Nolan Redeker finished in 8th place in the 3200 meter run.
Amber Walbeck of Marais des Cygnes Valley finished in 3rd place in the 1A girls javelin.
In the 1A boys high jump- Trevin Lewis of Burlingame and Chaska Lacey of Waverly tied for 5th place. Kelton Buettner of Hamilton and Braydon Schroer of Chase County finished tied for 8th place.
Claire Crawford of Osage City finished in 6th place in the 3A girls discus.
Megan Foster of Waverly finished in 8th place in the 1A girls long jump.
Trey Rathke of Northern Heights qualified for the finals in the 110 hurdles.
The meet will resume Saturday at 7:30am with the 3200 meter runs for 4-5-6A.
All races will be finals, no prelims.
