Chase County authorities diverted US Highway 50 traffic near Strong City for several hours Friday after a fatal crash.
Sheriff Richard Dorneker tells KVOE News a car driven by 64-year-old Chris Lickteig of Aurora, Illinois, was eastbound on US Highway 50 about 4.5 miles east of Strong City. A westbound pickup driven by 90-year-old Howard Chapman of Elmdale apparently crossed the center line and hit the Lickteig vehicle head-on.
Chapman, Lickteig and a passenger in Lickteig’s car, 89-year-old Melvin Lickteig of Scott City, were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway traffic was totally shut down for about 40 minutes after the crash, with one-lane traffic around the crash site for another two hours.
