Flood damage is becoming more evident in Greenwood County with the third round of flooding this month finally subsiding.
Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson says several bridges have been washed out, including 360th between Q and R just west of Madison.
A bridge near the Greenwood County Landfill was also destroyed, closing the facility until further notice.
Besides the bridge washouts, the county’s gravel road network took a beating, although roads have opened back up. Part of Kansas Highway 99 was undermined over Slate Creek near Hamilton. KDOT is conducting emergency repairs to shore up the highway.
Meanwhile, Vinson says the evacuation of the Fall River area went well Friday night and Saturday. The Army Corps of Engineers had to release around 36,000 cubic feet of water per second for most of Saturday, pushing water levels to within about 20 feet of homes in the city limits.
