Emporia Main Street is taking advantage of good construction weather — a rarity this month — to install long-awaited speakers in downtown Emporia.
Director Casey Woods is pleased the speakers may be installed before Saturday’s Dirty Kanza festivities.
Woods says a downtown speaker system has been sought for close to a decade, but he says the need has become more evident since the initial discussions as downtown events become more numerous and have more people attending.
The speakers will be on Commercial from Sixth to 10th and more may be installed down the road. Funds for the project were generated through Main Street’s Public Improvement Auction. The city of Emporia has reached an agreement to maintain the system once it’s built, with Main Street formally owning the system.
