A construction zone crash near Emporia led to injuries for an Iowa motorcycle driver.
Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers says 59-year-old Eric Larson of Ankeny was southbound and failed to maintain a work zone-related lane change just south of the Kansas Turnpike’s Emporia service exit at mile marker 132. Larson’s motorcycle hit two lane marker cones about a mile south of the service exit. Larson lost control and his bike overturned.
Larson was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. His condition will not be released. Larson was not wearing a helmet.

Several details are pending after a motorcycle crash on the Kansas Turnpike between the Emporia tollgate and the Emporia service area Friday afternoon.
The motorcycle was southbound and crashed near mile marker 131, just south of the service area and four miles northeast of the Emporia gate, shortly before 1 pm. The currently unnamed driver was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment.
Emporia Fire says an airlift was initially requested but was canceled. Injuries are currently listed as “non-emergent.”
The crash happened in an elongated work zone. The KTA is currently repairing numerous bridges between the Emporia gate and the service exit.
