The Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees spent part of their lunch hour Wednesday meeting with the Lyon County Commission.
The boards discussed the hospital’s strategic initiatives for the upcoming year. Chief Executive Officer Bob Wright says the hospital is pleased to emphasize a new program helping patients with chronic health issues.
The pilot program is now accepting patients and could expand to all employed physicians. Medicare has been offering this benefit for insured patients for the past 18 months.
County Commissioner Dan Slater says he was pleased with the level of cooperation between county government and hospital administration. He was also pleased with one recent project — the emergency department complex — that will lead to another in the coming months.
For the hospital-specific portion of the meeting, Wright says inpatient numbers are starting to increase after a relatively slow flu season. Meanwhile, pharmacy expansion work begins in June and will end this year. Wright says that is important because it advances the sterile compounding capability for medications that the hospital needs.
