The Emporia Junior American Legion baseball team finished the Summer Slam Tournament with a 1-2 record. They closed out the tournament with a 11-3 loss to Paola.
Paola scored 3 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to take a lead they would not give up. Paola put the game out of reach with 5 runs in the 4th inning. Emporia scored a run in the top of the first Cam Geitz scored on a John Pringle single. Post 5 added 2 more runs in the 3rd inning on a balk and an error. For Coach Cory Shovick this past weekend was a good starting point.
Paola won the Championship game, out scoring El Dorado 4-1.
The Junior Legion is scheduled to host Newton Tuesday.
The Emporia Senior Legion plays the Kansas Senators in Topeka Monday night. The Post 5 AAA opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of Burlington. Coach Anthony Markowitz says this season will be about taking the next steps of being a good team and being a better player.
The Emporia Senior Legion will be hosting the Sam Ellis Classic beginning Friday.
