Major construction work on the Kansas Turnpike through Lyon and Chase Counties will be getting underway next month.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority has announced a new multi-million dollar construction project will officially begin in July. The full scope of the project will include improvements to the acceleration and deceleration ramp and parking lot at the Emporia service area, drainage improvements at mile marker 132.2, expansion joint repairs at on both the north and southbound bridges at mile markers 124.68 and 125.22 and pavement mill and inlay work from mile marker 112.3 to 133.2. The total cost of the project will be just over $15 million.
The announcement of the project, which was made Monday, comes after the approval of a bid and awarding of the project’s contract to Cornejo and Sons LLC of Wichita. Work is scheduled for completion by summer 2020.
