Work could very well last through the summer in Coffey County to repair damages from recent flooding.
That is the thought of Coffey County Emergency Management Director Russel Stukey (Stoo-Kee). Much like in Chase County several Coffey County roads took a pounding from the flood waters which impacted the area throughout May.
According to Stukey the damages ranged from some roads only having small sections washed away to seeing entire sections of asphalt stripped away on asphalt roads. Stukey adds the damages also extend from roadways to individual homes.
He tells KVOE News roughly 20 area homes were affected by the flooding with damage ranging from a few inches of water in basements to homes having upwards of six to eight feet of water. Stukey explains these conditions have led to many residents continuing to be displaced from their homes.
Monday, Coffey County experienced more flash flooding which Stukey says caused additional damages pushing back the repair schedule even further. Currently repairs are not expected to be completed until the end of the summer, however, that is entirely dependant on weather conditions.
