The Trusler Business Center served as the host for the final legislative dialogue of the year in Emporia Tuesday evening.
Like the other dialogues this year, Tuesday’s event was co-sponsored by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Government Matters Committee and the League of Women Voters. Tuesday’s event was the culmination of a series of dialogues put on each year by both organizations.
Similar forums took place in February and March this year. Unlike the other dialogues, Tuesday’s comes after the conclusion of the 2019 legislative session which came to a close last Wednesday.
Steve Brosemer of the Government Matter’s Committee says the final dialogue essentially serves two purposes.
He adds it is vital for residents to attend the dialogues as it not only gives individuals one-on-one time with their area lawmakers, it also promotes a sense of citizenship locally. Along with organizers and area lawmakers in attendance, which included 17th District Senator and Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine, 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber and 76th District Representative Eric Smith, Emporia resident Leslie Seeley attended the evening’s festivities.
Seeley says she appreciates the face time with local representatives as it allows her time to address the issues which directly impact her and her loved ones.
Seeley also extended her thanks to the representatives in attendance for giving up their time to attend. League of Women Voters President Teressa Briggs tells KVOE News the dialogues are also a great additional resource for constituents aside from traditional news outlets.
51st District Representative Ron Highland was also invited but was unable to attend the dialogue.
