Day one of the two-day blood drive in Emporia appears to have gotten off to a great start.
The blood drive got underway at noon Wednesday and runs until 6 pm. The drive is looking to combat the recent shortage of O type blood.
Organizer Carolyn Turney tells KVOE News several individuals have answered the call for help.
Typically the summer months see a decrease in blood donations, however, Turney feels that statistic has not impacted donations Wednesday. Final numbers from day one will be announced at a later time.
Day two of the blood drive will take place Thursday.
The drive will run from 8 am to 2 pm and will again be held at the Presbyterian Church west of the ESU campus. An additional blood drive will also take place Friday at Flint Hills Mall and is being put on by Emporia High School Student Kianna Victor.
Walk-ins are welcome to attend, however, priority will be given to those who have made an appointment. For more information on the blood drives coming up this summer or to schedule an appointment to donate visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 800-RED-CROSS.
