The Kansas City Chiefs began their 3 day mandatory Mini Camp Tuesday.
Absent from mini camp is defensive lineman Chris Jones. Contract negotiations between the Chiefs and the star defensive tackle have stalled, leading to the holdout.
Jones skipped all of the voluntary portions of off season workouts hoping for a new deal. Without one, he’ll skip the mandatory portion as well. As with all players under contract, Jones is subject to fines of $88,650 for missing mandatory mini camp, per the CBA. Fines are at the team’s discretion.
Improving on defense has been a focus during the off-season.
Linebacker Anthony Hitchens says he likes the new defense.
Defensive back Kendall Fuller says they are improving each day.
Offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif says the offense is even adding some new schemes.
These will be the final workouts before training camp opens in July.
