Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods took time Wednesday to share some exciting developments and upcoming events.
Woods was pleased to announce this year the Kansas Legislature has refunded the Kansas Main Street Program. The program serves as a source of funding for local Kansas Main Street organizations which had its funding discontinued several years ago.
Woods says it is an exciting time for Main Street organizations across the state.
More details on the refunding of the program will be coming at a later time.
In addition to the exciting news, Woods was happy to report it is that time of year once again where preparations are being made for veteran banners to fly throughout downtown Emporia. Main Street is currently accepting entries for their veterans banner lottery which will be held next month. According to Woods, there are 39 slots open for this year and 120 entries have been received as of Wednesday with more coming in each day.
There is no cost to enter the lottery. If chosen individuals must provide a high-resolution photo of their veteran in uniform and a $200 sponsorship fee which allows the banner to be flown for four years.
The deadline for lottery entries is June 28 with the lottery taking place July 1st at 10 am live on Emporia Main Street’s Facebook page.
