The owners of a garage in northwest Emporia were planning to take down the structure Monday. An unplanned fire changed those plans.
Fire broke out at 1019 Garfield shortly after 10:30 am. Emporia Fire Capt. Ryan Schmidt says crews got the fire under control quickly.
Schmidt says there was no extension of the fire to any nearby building. The property is owned by Joy Morgan. Nobody was hurt, and it appears the garage was vacant in preparation for it to be moved. The cause is under investigation.
