The Lyon County Commission has begun the process of refining the 2020 budget.
During their weekly action session Thursday morning, commissioners were presented with their first look at the budget by Lyon County Controller Dan Williams. Williams explains this is essentially a first draft of what will become the finalized budget in August. According to Williams a main priority with the annual budget this year will be to keep the mill levy flat or possibly reduce it, however, it is to soon to say which of those outcomes will occur.
As many have noticed over just the past month severe weather has led to a number of damages on county roadways. In addition, the county is still in talks on the city/county radio project for emergency personnel. Williams says these two topics will have some form of impact on the finalized budget, but again it is too soon to tell exactly what that impact will look like monetarily.
Discussions on the budget will be ongoing throughout the upcoming weeks to continue the refinement process for the finalized budget.
In other business, Lyon County HR Director Janice Huffman presented an agreement for business health services with Newman Regional Health. Huffman tells KVOE News the value of the services and the cost of services was “clearly the best value” when compared to other medical providers.
The agreement mostly pertains to pre-employment services for county employees according to Huffman, as well as workman’s compensation. Commissioners approved the agreement 3-0.
Additionally, commissioners approved a request from Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull for the purchase of a 2019 Polaris Ranger 900 EPS from Express Tire and Auto for $11,722. Bruce Boettcher of BG Consultants also presented final pay estimates from Phoenix Fabricators for just over $34,000 and Goins Enterprises just over $32,000 for work on Rural Water District #1. Both requests were approved.
Two executive sessions also took place. The Lyon County Commission will hold its weekly action session next Thursday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
