A stream advisory has now been issued for the Cottonwood River and connecting tributaries after a water line break near a south Emporia street.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says there has been a large line break near South Arundel Street. The city is working to repair the break, but KDHE says this could lead to elevated bacteria levels and other contaminants in the river. Residents and pets should not enter the stream until the advisory is cleared.
KDHE says repairs will have to be completed and water samples will need to show no health risk for the advisory to be rescinded.
