Hot, soupy air is expected across the KVOE listening area Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Chase and Greenwood counties from 1-8 pm. Air temperatures are expected in the low 90s, but oppressive humidity levels could push the heat index up to 105-108 degrees by late afternoon.
Further to the north, Lyon and most surrounding counties should also have high temperatures in the low 90s. Heat index readings could be as high as 103.
This is easily the hottest air of the year to date and follows a high temperature of 78 degrees at the KVOE studios Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a severe weather risk continues north of Emporia with Wabaunsee County in a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 am. A severe weather risk is also in place areawide for both upcoming weekend days. All severe weather hazards are possible both Saturday and Sunday, and heavy rainfall will also be possible this weekend.
