President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for over 50 Kansas counties, including all counties in the KVOE listening area, after severe weather of various forms since late April.
This action frees up federal money for states, eligible local governments and certain nonprofit agencies on a cost-share basis for emergency work and either repairs to or replacements of facilities damaged by straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, mudslides and other severe weather dating back to April 28. The government will pay up to 75 percent of eligible costs for debris removal, facility repairs or replacements and hazard mitigation projects.
Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell will discuss the impact of President Trump’s decision and will update ongoing repair efforts after floods last month on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am Wednesday.
