Residents who pulled into the Staples Parking Lot Saturday morning got a hand in keeping child passengers safe thanks to Safe Kids Emporia.
The second Child Passenger Safety Checklane of the year took place in the parking lot located at 2200 Industrial Road. From 9 am to 1 pm certified technicians helped to install and inspect car seats from local residents. The capable contingent of technicians were made up of members of Safe Kids Emporia and local law enforcement including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Emporia Police Department.
EPD Sergeant Lisa Sage says the check lane is a great resource as it is not only free but also collects information to help ensure children are as safe as possible in a vehicle.
Sage says they see a consistent turnout each year for the annual check lanes including many “repeat customers.” She attributes this to many factors including the event being free, laid back and judgement free.
More check lanes will be coming in August and September. For more information visit the Safe Kids Emporia Facebook page.
