In the midst of numerous road closures due to recent flooding, some good news is now coming out of the Lyon County Highway Department.
Shortly after 1:30 pm Tuesday the department announced the reopening of seven local roads. The list includes:
*Road J from 30th Ave. to Road 215
*Road H from 190 to 195
*Road 145 from G to H
*Road 190 from K to K5
*Road 210 from K to Kansas Highway 99
*Road 215 from F5 to J7
*Road 240 from D to F
Despite these openings, the current list of county closures remains extensive following close to 20 closures this past weekend and another 10 Tuesday. The current list includes:
*Road B-2 from US Highway 50 to Road 180
*Road B-5 from US Highway 50 to Road 180
*Road K from 130 to 150
*Road R from 150 to 170
*Road T from 130 to 150
*Road 145 from T to W
*Road 150 from P to T
*Road 160 from G to J
Prior closures:
*Road A from US Highway 50 to Road 180
*Road G between 160 and 170
*Road H between 140 and 145; between 160 and 165
*1300 and 1400 blocks Road J; J from 30th Avenue (Road 190) to 215
*Road K from 130 to 150; from 190 to 210
*Road M between 140 and 150
*Road 140 between Road H and Kansas Highway 99
*700 block Road 145
*Road 150 between Road J and Kansas Highway 99
*Road 155 between F-5 and G
*Road 160 from G to H
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch is once again reminding people to heed barricades. Despite several water rescues in Lyon and surrounding counties last month and vivid photographs from the Lyon County Highway Department demonstrating the impact of flood damage on county roads, he says people are still driving around the blockages.
Rivers are in flood at four local or area gauges:
*Cottonwood River at Emporia: Warning until Thursday night. The river has crested at 24.3 feet, above flood stage of 20 feet. It should go below flood stage Thursday morning.
*Cottonwood at Plymouth: Warning until Tuesday night. The river is now at 32.4 feet, above the flood stage of 32 feet.
*Cottonwood River at Cottonwood Falls: Warning until Wednesday morning. The river is at 9.8 feet, above flood stage of 9 feet but below the crest of 10.6. It should fall below flood stage Tuesday afternoon.
*Neosho River at Neosho Rapids: Warning until Thursday afternoon. The river is at 24.24 feet, above flood stage of 22 but down from 24.93 feet late Monday. It should go below flood stage Wednesday evening.

More roads have closed in Lyon County due to flooding.
The Lyon County Highway Department announced almost 10 more roads and intersections are now barricaded after close to 20 roads were closed over the weekend and Monday:
*Road B-2 from US Highway 50 to Road 180
*Road B-5 from US Highway 50 to Road 180
*Road K from 130 to 150
*Road R from 150 to 170
*Road T from 130 to 150
*Road 145 from T to W
*Road 150 from P to T
*Road 160 from G to J

*Neosho River at Neosho Rapids: Warning until Thursday afternoon. River is at 24.55 feet, above flood stage of 22 but down from 24.93 feet late Monday. It should go below flood stage Wednesday evening.
