June 26th one year ago marks the day that Eureka was struck with a second tornado disaster in around five years.
In the 365 since this last tornado, the city of Eureka has managed to clean up and rebuild primarily everything, with a few exceptions. Things have been on the upward swing for some time now, but City Administrator Ian Martell tells KVOE storm season still makes him anxious.
A common occurrence during a tornadic incident is the relocation of families, but Martell says Eureka hasn’t followed this trend, and it may have even had the opposite effect.
Martell also adds that the mood of the community is substantially better now than that of a year ago. A large part of that can be attributed to the annual Party in the Park celebration on the Fourth of July. This day will be full of events and activities and a full list of these can be found at eurekakansas.com.
