Discussions continued regarding the city/county radio project during the Lyon County Commission’s weekly action session Thursday.
Craig Fischer of KA-Comm., Inc. was present to discuss potential options for the new radio system with commissioners. Fischer made the suggestion for the commission to look into purchasing a “phase 2” radio system. The 911 Advisory Board has proposed utilizing the Kansas Statewide Interoperable Communication System (KSICS) which operates as a “phase 1” system.
Fischer tells KVOE News the reason for his presence Thursday was to address concerns he has and to ensure commissioners are fully aware of the intricacies that come along with a project of this size.
Commissioner Scott Briggs says the commission feels fully confident in the recommendations from the 911 Board as it pertains to which system to utilize.
Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell tells KVOE News the “phase 2” system does allow for more capacity, however, capacity is not a concern in terms of the proposed project.
In other business, commissioners approved requests from Community Corrections Director Steve Willis including a line item budget adjustment of $7,700 for the KDOC Adult budget and the purchase of a 2019 Chevy Impala, the cost of which will be split between KDOC Adult and Juvenile grants.
The Lyon County Commission will hold their regular action session next Wednesday at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
