Steamy conditions are expected across the KVOE area.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for most of the area Friday and again Saturday. Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are under heat advisories both days from 1-8 pm. Coffey County is in Friday’s heat advisory.
Air temperatures will climb to the low 90s both days, with a high of 93 Friday and 92 tomorrow Saturday in Emporia. Heat index readings could be as high as 107 both days. Air temperatures will be around 90 for most of next week, but the current forecast doesn’t call for the oppressive humidity we’re expecting for today Friday and Saturday.
If you’re planning to spend any length of time in the heat, make sure to drink lots of water. Sports drinks are an acceptable alternative, but stay away from carbonated or alcoholic drinks. Also, wear light and loose-fitting clothes, avoid strenuous activity, take frequent breaks, and stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible. Also, remember to check on children, pets and the elderly to make sure they are OK.
