Area residents flocked to Emporia High School to show their support of Ace Garate’s family by running in a fundraising 5K Saturday.
The Ace It Up 5K served as an activity, but it also was a celebration of Ace Garate’s life, which was cut short by a car crash in Branson, Missouri, last month. Garate’s father, Carlos Garate, said his son’s faith drove him to a wide range of good deeds in a short time.
Carlos Garate also tells KVOE News the community has lifted up his family after the tragedy May 15.
Around 120 people registered for the run. Funds benefit the Garate family. Totals are pending.
Plans are now in place for the Aces for Ace disc golf tournament July 14. Drew Baker will preview that event on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:15 am Tuesday.
