A Texas man accused of transporting methamphetamine into Lyon County earlier this year has been sentenced on a lesser charge.
Luis Alonzo Alvarado was arrested in February about seven miles southwest of Emporia following a traffic stop. Authorities said they found 30 pounds of methamphetamine in the truck Alvarado was driving, which actually belonged to somebody else.
Alvarado was originally charged with meth possession with intent to distribute and other counts, but he reached a plea deal and was recently sentenced to three years in prison for meth possession.
Further case details are pending.
