Full-blown demolition begins soon at Emporia State University.
The official process for completely demolishing Northeast Morse Hall and partially tearing down Central Morse Hall could begin as soon as 7 am Monday. A 100,000-pound machine will be brought to campus to start the tear-down process, and crews could work nearly 12-hour days between now and the start of the fall semester in August to get most of the demolition work done.
Fifteenth will remain closed between Singular and Trusler halls on the east side and the southwest corner of Welch Stadium for the length of the project, which will also include the full renovation of Abigail Morse Hall. Click here for the YouTube link to ESU’s “demo cam.”
The Morse Hall project was one of the talking points during the most recent ESU Buzz, which was actually dedicated to the grand opening of Schallenkamp Hall in August. On KVOE’s most recent ESU Buzz with President Allison Garrett, Director of Residential Life Cass Coughlin says ESU wanted a new facility that was comfortable and encouraged both relationship-building and community-building. Students, meanwhile, had their own requests.
Public tours of Schallenkamp Hall are planned for July 27, with students moving in starting Aug. 1.
