Hot temperatures will remain in place across the KVOE listening area Sunday, but the humidity levels will be down just a bit from the past two days.
Heat index readings reached 103 in Emporia on Friday and as high as 107 in Melvern. Saturday’s heat index locally got as high as 106, validating heat advisories for Lyon and most surrounding counties both days. For Sunday, only Morris and Wabaunsee counties are in a heat advisory. This goes from 1-8 pm, reflecting air temperatures in the mid-90s and heat index readings as high as 105.
If you have to spend time in the heat:
*Drink lots of water before and during your activity
*Stay away from carbonated or alcoholic drinks
*Wear light and loose-fitting clothes
*Avoid strenuous activity
*Take frequent breaks
*Stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible.
One thing not to do: go from one extreme — the heat — to the other — cold. The body may go into shock, causing urgent or life-threatening conditions.
Also, remember to check on children, pets and the elderly to make sure they are okay.
Stay with KVOE and KVOE.com for updates.
