Street rehabilitation is in full swing in Emporia.
City Engineer Jim Ubert had an update on KVOE’s Morning Show recently. Several project zones are already finished, including:
*Market from Sixth to Eighth
*East Logan from Exchange to East
*East from Logan to Quail Creek
*Whildin from Linn to US Highway 50
*Donelson from Homewood to the cul-de-sac
*East 10th from Weaver to Homewood
*East Wilman from Rural to 18th
This means a lot of attention is now on the work currently underway on West 12th between Lincoln and Prairie.
Ubert says about 40 percent of the overall project is completed. Work remains on:
**Merchant from Sixth to 12th
*South Exchange from Logan Avenue 1000 feet to the south
*Sunnyslope from Sixth to Ninth
Work should be finished up by Labor Day.
In addition to street rehab, work continues on the city’s new water tower near South Avenue, Penny Lane and Weaver streets. Work also continues to relocate utilities on Peyton Street as part of a project to add a rail spur line near the Bunge crush facility. On top of that, work recently started on a three-month project to renovate the Prairie Street overpass. Sanitary sewer renovations downtown will continue into late spring or early summer 2020.
